Dr. (Mrs.) Shubhankari P. Rao is a distinguished Ayurvedic doctor based in Bangalore, with over four decades of experience in the field of Ayurvedic medicine and healthcare. She completed her general education in Bangalore and went on to pursue an extensive education in Ayurveda, earning her BSAM (Bachelor System in Ayurvedic Medicines) in 1981 and BAMS (Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicines and Surgery) in 1985. Throughout her career, Dr. Shubhankari has consistently demonstrated her dedication to the Ayurvedic system of healing, which has earned her numerous accolades and recognition within both the medical and public spheres.

As a co-founder of Agnivesha Ayurveda Anushtana, Dr. Shubhankari has played a significant role in promoting Ayurvedic education and practice, with a focus on providing high-quality care that integrates both traditional and contemporary medical knowledge.

Awards and Achievements

Dr. Shubhankari’s commitment to excellence is reflected in her extensive list of awards and achievements. In her early years, she excelled in extracurricular activities, having been the winner of the Bangalore University Chess Championship in 1978 and ranking third in the state chess championship for three consecutive years (1976, 1977, and 1978).

She was also a champion athlete, securing the College Athletic Championship for two consecutive years in 1977 and 1978. Her lifelong dedication to service and Ayurveda has led to her receiving prestigious honors such as the Yagnavalkya Prashasthi in 1999, awarded by the Sri Yagnavalkya Seva Trust, and the Kaschaparathna Award in 2014 for her exceptional contribution to Ayurvedic services. These recognitions, among others, underscore her relentless passion and skill in the field of holistic health.

Her specialties span a wide array of health concerns, including infertility, gynaecological disorders, antenatal care, hair care, anorectal diseases, joint disorders, gastrointestinal conditions, obesity, endocrine, and nervous disorders. With an in-depth understanding of Ayurvedic principles, Dr. Shubhankari has successfully treated thousands of patients, offering holistic care rooted in ancient wisdom and modern techniques.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Shubhankari has been an active advocate for Ayurveda, contributing extensively to its growth and awareness. She has authored several books, including Ayurveda Mathu Mahila Arogya in Kannada and Ayurvedic Health Codes in English, both of which aim to educate the general public about the benefits of Ayurvedic practices. Additionally, she has written over 1000 articles for English newspapers and magazines, focusing on both medical professionals and the wider community. Dr. Shubhankari is also a respected academic, having participated in various Ayurvedic seminars and conferences, and has been a mentor to many Ayurvedic practitioners through Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
